Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu kata

I can't find any Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu kata, so I am going to make my own. I really think this is the best way to help me remember how to do the Brazilian jiu jitsu techniques.

Jaw Pain

For the last few days now, my jaw has been hurting. I went rolling yesterday and a guy was trying to pass my guard. He was trying to stand up, or something, anyhow I was at a 90 degree angle and I could feel my jaw, starting to hurt again. Does anyone know why this is? And if so how to stop it? I don't have a mouthpiece, could that be why? I have not been hit in my jaw or anything.

1st tap-out

I made my first two tap-outs, yesterday. Both were by kimura and both were on the same white belt, However he has been doing BJJ longer than me. Then I roll this the big ass blue belt, who with was very informative. He was a really good teacher, but now I have a lot of Bjj in my head and I think I am going to mist things up. Well, I know I am: I am getting all the escapes from side mount confused. But I was able to do it right one time on a blue belt. Also, I cannot seem to use the sit up sweep. People don’t sit up for me to do it.

Gracie university 2

They answered my questions, and here are the questions and answers:

Q.
If you are in side mount and the guy on the bottom places his arm in your neck and then starts to push you, off of him, with both his hands, what should you do?

Q.
I had a guy's back, with my leg hooks in. Then I pulled him on top of me, but I could not get my arm under his neck. He was doing two arms on one, and he kept his chin down. He then waited until I was tried out and some how rolled in to mount. What should I have done to stop this? And what was I doing wrong?
(7/29/2009 9:55 AM)
A.
If he's pulling down on your one arm with his two, then your free arm should go for the choke. If you're stalemated with both of his arms trapping yours, then make him tire while you hold the position and continue to improve your choke. First and foremost, hold the position before you go for the submission.

Q.
I have tried ,but I cannot seem to pull anyone in to my guard, some how they all ways get a knee pass my guard, how can I stop this? I tried pulling their bicep across my chest then going for guard but that too does not seem to work, why?

Lesson 21. Work on securing his shoulders and shooting your hips rearward.

Q.
what should I do when I am in someone's guard, I have a knee in his butt, I am holding on to his hips, and both my elbows are in his thighs, but he moves his butt from my knee and I can't break his guard? And he does that over and over again.
(7/29/2009 9:31 AM)
A.
Lesson 36. Smack his head until he opens his guard.

Q.
What should I do when someone has high mount on me? I mean they are sitting on my chest with their legs wrapped around me.

A.
Lesson 1. Shrimp north and block his knees with your elbows, then execute the trap and roll or elbow escape.

Q what to do when you start gassing out ?

A.
Relax, breathe, and remain in a punch-safe position until you regain your energy and your opponent exhausts himself.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has no kicking or punching. So, why do the people at Gracie university keep talking about punching, in their answers to my questions? Furthermore must, their answers to almost every question have one of their lesson in them?

Gracie university .com

Gracie university has a lot of ways to help one learn BJJ. One way is a open forum where you can post a question and A Gracie Academy instructor will review your question, and you will receive an email notification once the answer is posted. Now, I went to a BJJ class at my gym and after I had some questions. So I posted them on the Gracie university forum. So for, none of my questions have been answered. I did post that blog I wrote about one of their videos a fews days ago and they repiled to that saying,"Go to www.lesson1.com! Start by learning the Gracie Combatives techniques, then worry about the more advanced (and less likely situations) after you've earned your blue belt.
Gracie Academy 1." I did go to the site and it was helpful, but I am starting to think they are more in to selling DVDs,than help you learn bjj. If they every answer my questions I will post them up on here. I am really hoping they do before I go back to my class, so I can see if what they say helps or not.

No Gi Beyondgrappling Situp sweep

I have not tried this move yet, but of all the sweep moves I have seen on YouTude, this looks like the most effective.

Gracie Brazilian jiu-jitsu Vol 2 – Advanced Arm Locks

I studied a video called “Gracie Brazilian jiu-jitsu Vol 2 – Advanced Arm Locks” by Renzo Gracie and Craig Kukuk. Renzo Gracie is a Black Belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and is one of the greatest in the history of the sport. Craig Kukuk is the first American to receive an authentic Black Belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. After, I studied it I tried out the techniques from the tape on a guy named David who has been training BJJ for three years. The first move on the tape is double arm lock from guard. You have your partner in your guard and he places his hands on your chest. You walk your legs up your partner’s back until they are over his shoulders and lock your feet together. You lock both his arms with both your hands. One hand locks your training partner’s hands and your other hand locks his elbows. Then you just pull your pelvis up.
I tried this technique, but I could not get it to work. Why? Well, one, it is hard to lock your partner’s shoulders. David would place his elbows in to my thighs. So, I grabbed one of his elbows with one hand and his wrist with my other hand: two hands on one. I tried locking his arms as I walked up his shoulders but it did not work. I tried what the videos says, and turn my hips but then David some how got to mount. It happened really fast.
I watched a youtube video on how to escape from full mount (I can not find it now). It said to bridge up until your partner has both his hands on the mat. Then, lock your arms around your partners’ hips to whole him there. Then trap a leg, and look for an arm and then trap it. Then roll over on side of the trip arm and leg. Well, I try that when David had mount but he locked his arm together and I could do anything.
Can anyone tell me what I should have done?
The other techniques on the video I did not get a chance to use. So I will comment on them later.

July 25, 2009

Beginner should focus on Escapes: from mount, from side control, and from back mount. I watched a lot of videos on attacks, however; when I rolled with some blue belts, I could not get in the position to use these moves. So, I went back and looked up escapes. I went rolling today, I still could not tap any one out, but I could roll for a minute before taping out. All the videos I watched were on youtube. I did download some on limewire, but they are on advance arm locks. They were really good, but I cannot seem to get any of them to work. Furthermore, more people I have talk to never heard of some of the moves I seen on the videos. At the gym I train at people don't seem to watch videos. For now I am going to work on more Escapes. This blue belt I roll seemed to know what I was trying to do and could stop me. So I am going to focus of that.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu challenge

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."
Robert Frost.
The American people, as a whole, have lost their good work habits. I wonder, if a person really does what Frost says: that is devour all their time and energy, could they really succeed in any endeavor? Starting, Friday July, 23, 2009, I will YouTube and Google every movie and every post I can find on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (bjj). I will see, if I will have good results by studying bjj. I will study bjj, like I would a calculus class, to see if I can tap out a guy that has been training in Bjj for three years. I have joined a bjj gym and I know I guy I can test my ideal with. Every week, I will write a Blog on what videos I have seen and my progress.
